Books you read
The app for the books you read: library, yearly goal and notes
Booktation is a reading tracker app: mark the books you have read, are reading and want to read, set your goal for the year and keep a reading journal made of notes, on the right page, with how each one made you feel. It opens in your browser and it is free.

To read, reading, read
- Each book has its status: to read, reading, read.
- Start and finish dates, and the page you have reached.
- Your rating from 1 to 5, which only you see.
- Paper, e-book or audiobook: you choose for each book.
- Covers and categories arrive by themselves; filter your library by status, category, year read, with or without notes.
Your yearly goal and statistics
- Choose how many books you want to read this year and see how many are left. The books you mark as “Read” count.
- Books finished per month and per year, notes per month, pages read.
- The weeks in a row in which you read or wrote a note.
These numbers are yours: only you see them.
A reading journal made of notes
A list of titles says what you read. Notes say what stayed with you.
- Snap the underlined page, say the sentence or type a couple of lines: the note goes to the right page.
- For each note you choose how it made you feel. On a book’s page you also see how it made its readers feel, with no names and from at least 5 readers.
- Notes from different books connect and become themes; recommendations for what to read next start from there.
- You find them again by searching for a word, or by book or theme.
Without starting from scratch
- From Goodreads and StoryGraph, with the file you download from there: books, statuses, dates and ratings. The page on the Goodreads alternative shows how.
- From Kindle come your highlights and notes: here is how to export them.
- With PRO, your library from photos of the spines: frame the shelf with your phone, one stretch at a time, and the books go in all at once.
- Or search for a book by title or author, or take a photo of its cover.
Importing is free, on every plan.
Do I need to download an app?
No: it opens in the browser of your phone, tablet or computer, with the same books everywhere. To have it like an app, on iPhone and iPad tap Share and then “Add to Home Screen”; on Android open the menu with the three dots and choose “Add to Home screen”.
What it costs
The Free plan never expires: unlimited books and written notes, 10 voice or photo notes a month, your yearly goal and statistics, book clubs, import and export. PRO costs €4.99 a month or €39 a year, with a 14-day trial: 300 voice or photo notes a month and your library from photos of the spines. All the details are on the home page.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes: the Free plan never expires and needs no credit card. You only need PRO if you photograph or dictate lots of pages, or want your library from photos of the spines.
Can I track audiobooks and library books too?
Yes. With an audiobook you dictate the line that struck you, even without a page. With a library book you take a photo of the page and tap the sentences to keep: no marks needed.
Who sees my library and my notes?
Only you, until you choose to show a note. If you like, you show some notes to your book club, and only its members see them, or you make a copy of a note visible to the readers of the same book; you can take them back whenever you like.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes, whenever you like, on the Free plan too: your notes in a file you open with Word, Obsidian or Notion, and the full backup you can import again.
