Cookie Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
This page explains what Booktation stores on your device and why. In short: no advertising or profiling cookies, only what the app needs to work, and visit statistics collected without cookies. That is why we do not show a cookie banner.
1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage and the cache of an installed web app, work in a similar way and follow the same rules (art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code and the Italian Data Protection Authority’s cookie guidelines of 10 June 2021).
These rules require consent only for non-essential tools, such as advertising or profiling cookies. Booktation uses none of them.
2. What Booktation stores (strictly necessary)
Sign-in session
- What
- Local storage entry “sb-…-auth-token”, set by Supabase Auth.
- Why
- It keeps you signed in and protects your requests.
- How long
- Until you sign out.
Language
- What
- Local storage entry “booktation.lang”.
- Why
- It remembers the language you chose (English or Italian).
- How long
- Until you change it or clear the site data.
Interface preferences
- What
- Local and session storage entries for small preferences: tips already seen, onboarding progress, a copy of the explanations of the links between your notes.
- Why
- So the app does not repeat tips and opens faster.
- How long
- Until you clear the site data (session storage: until you close the tab).
Code on its way
- What
- Session storage entry “booktation.signup-code”: the email address we sent a sign-in code to, and when.
- Why
- If the page reloads while you read the email (on a phone), the sign-up window opens again on the code.
- How long
- 10 minutes, or until you close the tab; it is deleted when you sign in.
Instant opening of the Home
- What
- A copy of the data of your Home (for example the books you are reading) in the browser’s storage, on your device only.
- Why
- When you come back, the Home opens right away, before the updated data arrives.
- How long
- Until you sign out: we delete it then. It also goes when you clear the site data.
Back where you were
- What
- The last screen of the app you opened and the text of the note you are writing and have not saved yet, in the browser’s storage, on your device only.
- Why
- If the phone closes the app while you are in another one, coming back opens the same screen and you find your note.
- How long
- The screen 30 minutes; the note until you save or discard it, 24 hours at most. Both are deleted when you sign out.
App cache
- What
- Files of the app saved by its service worker.
- Why
- The app opens faster and can be installed on your home screen.
- How long
- Replaced at every update of the app.
They are strictly necessary to provide the service you ask for, so they do not require your consent (art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code). They are never used to track you.
3. Visit statistics without cookies
To know how many people visit the site and which pages they view, we use Vercel Web Analytics. It does not use cookies or local storage: it counts page views in aggregate, and visitors are told apart only by a code derived from the request that changes every day and cannot be traced back to you. It does not follow you across other sites. For this reason it does not require consent.
4. Third-party content and sites
- Book covers are loaded directly from Open Library (covers.openlibrary.org, archive.org) and Google Books (books.google.com). These services receive your IP address and may use their own cookies on their domains, according to their policies (Internet Archive, Google).
- Payments: Stripe checkout and the subscription portal are pages on stripe.com, where Stripe uses its own cookies, for example to prevent fraud (Stripe cookie policy).
- Roadmap: the public roadmap (roadmap.booktation.com) is a separate site, run with ProductLift. When you visit it, ProductLift sets the technical cookie “anon_user_id”, which lasts 1 year and recognises your votes and proposals even without an account. [Link to the privacy notice of the roadmap site, once it is published]
5. How to manage or delete them
You can delete what Booktation stores at any time from your browser settings (“Site data” or “Cookies and site data”). If you delete the session you will be signed out; if you block local storage you will not be able to sign in. Uninstalling the app from your home screen also removes its cache.
6. Changes
If we add tools that need your consent, we will ask you first in the cookie banner, where accepting and refusing are equally easy, and we will update this page.
For questions write to info@booktation.com. How we process personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy.
